Puerto Pollensa
Puerto Pollensa lies on the coast approximately a ten minute drive from the old town Pollensa. Porta Pollensa stretches out along a well sheltered horseshoe shaped bay and the Boquer mountains which lie on the north coast of Mallorca making a stunning backdrop.
Puerto Pollesa used to be a small fishing port and now whilst retaining most of its old natural charm it has become a popular destination for the discerning traveller. During the summer months the town attracts mainly British families looking for something more than the hustle and bustle of the popular south coast resorts. The shallow waters extend quite a way out into the bay making it a safe paddling place for youngsters. Many of the hotels have entertainment that is geared primarily towards children. Whilst it has plenty of shops restaurants and hotels Peurto Pollensa is not too exuberant and is a perfect holiday destination for people of all ages from toddlers to the elderly. There is a wide sandy beach from which you can gaze at the colourful sails of the many sailing yachts or you could venture along the pedestrianised promenade, which leads to the beautiful Pine Walk, this pleasant sea front stroll takes you right through to the north of the region.
There are many activities to enjoy whilst staying at Peurto Pollensa, water sports with facilities and equipment available from various operators at the marina and along the beach. Glass bottom boat trips are available from the port for those days when you are feeling less energetic and wish to explore the marine life. Hiking and biking are great ways to explore the island, there are many trails to follow which will take you through beautiful scenery. You could even explore on horse back taking in all the sights. Sporting activities include tennis, sailing, water skiing, windsurfing and there is a nine hole golf course near the Old Town of Pollensa.
Whilst Peurto Pollensa is not known for it’s clubbing nightlife it does have it’s share of small clubs and bars, however if it is nightclubs you want then you don’t have to travel far to find them, Alcudia is just a couple of miles south and has a very lively night scene.
Peurto Pollensa is renowned for having some of the best fish restaurants in Mallorca. If you fancy something other than sea food there is also a vast array of restaurants catering for all tastes from Pizza, Pasta, Chinese, Indian to traditional English you’ll find a wide variety of local, national and international cuisine at prices to suit all pockets.
A weekly market takes place in the church square in Puerto Pollensa and it never ceases to delight tourists with its stunning produce form fresh fruit and vegetables to leather goods and ceramics.
